Ventures evolve as they move through the Innovation Continuum from initial concept to market success. As the venture evolves, so does the funding strategy: founder cash; grants; angel investment; venture capital; debt financing; etc. Building a strategy to effectively pursue the right kind of money at the right time can make all the difference for a new venture.

The session is led by Corey Smith, Serial Entrepreneur and Entrepreneur-in-Residence, AzCI.

Panelists include:

 

Mark Banister, COO and Founder, Medipacs Inc – Mark is the inventor of the Medipacs pump system and unique polymer actuator materials. Mark has over 30 years of experience in business, product design, polymer chemistry, mechanical engineering, manufacturing and tooling design and is currently the PI on a National Science Foundation STTR Phase II Grant, Mark has been able to leverage over $1M in grant funding into over $3M in angel funding.

Ngoc Can, Diamond Holualoa Capital – Ngoc Can is an analyst at Diamond Holualoa Capital. She is looking for investment opportunities for the firm. Ngoc is holds an MBA with concentration in finance from the University of Arizona.

Curtis Gunn, Chairman, Desert Angels – Curtis Gunn is Chairman of the Desert Angels, an angel investment group of over 80 accredited investors in Tucson, AZ that review presentations from early stage startup companies looking for potential funding.  As an angel investor, Curtis has invested in over 30 different companies across a broad base of industries, technologies, and geographies.

Dominic Lin, Funding Garage Inc. Dominic Lin is the founder of Funding Garage Inc., the world’s #1 automotive crowdfunding platform for automotive enthusiasts. He also runs a monthly crowdfunding workshop in Tucson with the mission to empower local entrepreneurs to utilize alternative methods to reach their fundraising goals.

Miguel Zazueta, Community Development Office, PMHDC – Miguel J. Zazueta is a Community Development Officer for PPEP Microbusiness (PMHDC) which is the SBA Intermediary Lender for Southern Arizona and covers 67% of the state. Miguel oversees more than $3.3M loan portfolio and has over $1.2M in lending dollars to provide capital access to small business that want to start-up or currently exist. PPEP Micro offers technical assistance, training, and counseling for free as well as loan capital access within its 14 different loan funds

Join us for an informal “Entrepreneurship Incubator Open House/Networking Event” to meet the AzCI entrepreneurs and learn about how AzCI may be a place and program to turn your idea into a successful business. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and

members of the entrepreneurial community are invited.
